Choosing Digital Camera Insurance
Digital cameras have revolutionised the way many people think about photography and use their cameras. Digital camera insurance might usually also revolutionise the way you view the risks associated with your camera.
Nagging concerns
It’s great to have our cameras with us most of the time. They’re there and available for that opportunistic snap or just to record the events of a given moment to treasure time and time again.
If you’re a serious amateur photographer or just a really enthusiastic amateur, you might usually carry your camera around regularly – particularly when travelling.
That may well lead to niggling doubts and worries about what would happen in the event of its theft or accidental destruction etc.
Digital camera insurance
You might be able to, of course, just dig into your emergency savings and buy yourself a new camera – that is if you have any savings.
If that scenario isn’t one that appeals, then thinking about some form of camera cover may be advisable.
Usually insurance is not hard to understand. For your premium you may generally be able to find a policy providing benefits such as:
· cover against theft;
· breakdown of your camera outside of manufacturer’s warranty protection;
· accidental destruction;
· 48-hour replacement of the camera following claim approval;
· global coverage if you need to venture outside of the UK.
Of course you may have additional equipment such as lenses – these may generally be coverable separately if you ask the insurance provider to do so.
You may have to pay a little extra for optional loss cover but it may be well worth it.
Be careful with your property
Typically, camera insurance cover won’t cover you against your own forgetfulness though.
If you were to lose your camera it might mean you cannot claim.
Your policy might also insist that if it’s stolen, the police are notified immediately (within less than 24-hours) and that you obtain a formal police crime number to support your claim application.
Policies may also carry an excess – details of which will typically be explained in the initial insurance cover description documents.
In terms of breakdown protection, some caution may be advisable when doing things such as adding accessories or trying to customise your camera. Some policies might typically not accept damage repair claims arising from your efforts to do something to the camera that’s subsequently gone badly wrong.
There will also be terms and conditions to the policy so check these before taking it out.
Digital camera insurance is something that may prove very useful in times of adversity. Knowing a little more might be beneficial.
